Week 5
This week marks the official debut of Philippe Aballea, our animator, who will have the difficult job of integrating and reworking the Motion Capture Animations. As a way of evaluating his skills, I asked him a week ago to come up with a demonstration sequence of a character hit by a bullet in the stomach, who then falls off a footbridge.
He succeeded this test so well that we will be incorporating the results into the game.
From a technical standpoint, we carried out some tests of the first animations that ACTI system sent - someone walking, and someone running. We decided that the Bones technique should be used on the full detail characters, and the game characters will be animated by rotations. Our characters are modeled in one object - this reduces the number of faces and eliminates holes at the seams. These tests verified the need to include our deformable faces routine.
