Week 5

This week we delivered our first milestone to Eidos. For anyone who didn't already know, a milestone is a stage in game development. The developer and editor agree on the content and frequency of the milestones, and project finance is conditional on approval by the publisher. At Omikron, we decided on the content of our milestones ourselves, by agreement with Eidos, on a monthly basis.
John, our English producer, came to see us. He went off happy, as the month's targets had been met, in spite of the extra work on E3. On the graphics side, Pierre finished the Gandhar grotto. He's now working on the Prahoma prison, and the prisoner's escape from it. Philippe and Corentin are completing the park (according to our producer, it's looks better than Turok on N64). Elisio is working on the Neighbourhood 3 design, alongside Stephane, one of our 2D graphic artists, who wants to be involved in the game's graphic design.

Tony has virtually completed the swimming animations (diving, breaststroke, leaving the water, etc.). We have also made initial contact with various martial arts champions, for the motion capture sessions due to take place in July.

On the programming side, Fabien is beginning the game interface, which will, basically, be our end of month milestone. Antoine is beginning one of the biggest components of the 3D engine, light and shadow management. Until now, little attention had been paid to light, with a single omni light source over the whole city. We are now introducing unlimited light sources on the setting, and providing for shadows, settings and other features of interest.

Scenario writing is going ahead well, although there have been a number of sleepless nights and hard-working weekends. One of the problems we face, as a result of the complete freedom we intend for the player, is now close to being more or less resolved. However a lot still needs to be done to tighten up the writing and develop the full complexity of the decision-making trees.

See you next week.
