Paranormal Thriller Set For September 2005
LONDON, UK – 25 February 2004 – Survival makes for strange bedfellows in Atari's new paranormal thriller, Fahrenheit, being developed by Quantic Dream for the PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system, Xbox® video game system from Microsoft and personal computer. Set in near future New York City, Fahrenheit tells the story of a man whose destiny is irrevocably altered when he unwillingly commits a brutal murder and to find the truth must partner with the woman assigned to bring him to justice.
"Fahrenheit represents a real milestone in the development of video gaming and the adventure genre, with genuinely innovative design and a chilling atmosphere to match that of some of the most successful big screen psychological thrillers," said Martin Spiess, Senior Vice President of Marketing, Atari Europe. "Quantic Dream have created a game where the tension seeps from the screen into the mind, guaranteeing no shortage of emotional investment from the player. A powerful connection is created between the player and the action on-screen, where every turn and every micro-decision has serious consequences."
In Fahrenheit, New York City is stunned by a series of mysterious murders, all following the same pattern: ordinary people are killing absolute strangers in public areas. Lucas Kane becomes another one of these murderers when he suddenly kills a stranger in a men's washroom. Covered in blood, Lucas regains consciousness with no recollection as to why he committed the murder. Hunted by police, Lucas must solve the mystery before being caught and incarcerated for life.
A free-flowing game during which players can assume the role of multiple characters and experience the game from multiple viewpoints, Fahrenheit allows players' actions to affect the plot by offering a scenario driven interactive experience. Through motion picture techniques such as actor direction, multi-camera views, motion tracking and a contextual music score, players find themselves intimately immersed in the game.
Developed by Quantic Dream for the PlayStation2, Xbox and PC, Fahrenheit is scheduled for release in September 2005. More information about the game can be found online at www.fahrenheitgame.com.
